Joseph D. Carney is the Senior Partner and founder of the Firm. Joe counsels a broad range of publicly and privately held corporations on securities, financing, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate matters. Joe earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Boston University (1974 and 1977), and earned his Juris Doctor from Case Western University School of Law (1977) and his L.L.M. (Masters of Law) from the Georgetown University Law Center (1983). A former Special Counsel to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Joe was promoted in only three years to partner at the Cleveland law firm of Calfee, Halter & Griswold, before launching Joseph D Carney & Associates. A licensed arbitrator, Joe is admitted to both the Ohio and District of Columbia Bars, as well to practice before District Courts, Courts of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is an active member of the Cleveland, Ohio community serving as trustee to multiple civic organizations. A noted author and lecturer on securities and business law topics, Joe is frequently asked to consult on complex securities investigation and litigation including broker-dealer issues, insurance securities, forensic accounting, and publicly or privately held companies.
